BIOGRAPHY

Matt Purcell

Matt Purcell is an Australian songwriter/singer/guitarist who relocated to Ireland in 2014. He has played and recorded with Sydney band Clover in the past. Matt released his debut album ‘Matt Purcell & The Blessed Curse’ (Other Tongues) in 2010, bringing praise from power pop fans in the US & Australia alike. His second album came in 2013, called ‘Mathew Street’ and was a more introspective, folk rock effort. Matt’s third album, ‘Silverman’ was released in Aug 2017, and received a favorable review by Hotpress Magazine.

‘Matt Purcell – Silverman, antipodean troubadour flies solo. An 11-song opus that lovers of Social Distortion, Drive-By Truckers and mid-period Gaslight Anthem, will clutch to their hearts, it’s a wonderfully ragged rock record, full of warmth.’ (Hotptress Magazine, Aug 2017)

Matt’s Australian band, ‘Clover’, released the impressive retrospective ‘Over & Over’ album on Other Eyes Records in 2019. Recorded in part in London’s Toerag studios.

He has been writing and recording new songs in his home studio in Tipperary, Ireland for the past year. These new songs have been Mixed by the always inspirational Alberto Callegari, in Piacenza’s famous ELFO studios. ‘Message to you’ is Matt’s fourth album. It is the sound of the great sixties Beat groups, Power pop Lumanaries and early Italian Rock and Rollers. An Antonioni sound track. A ‘Beat’ film made for the Paisley underground and for the modernist groovers out there.
